Abu Dhabi's Corniche

So mum went off to work, my brother out with his friends and I stayed in working on my university work.

But from the minute mum stepped back in, quarter past 8 at night, it was time to get changed and ready for our power walk. Water at the ready and trainers on our feet, the pleasure of our walk awaited us.

Bearing in mind this is at night, when you wouldn’t venture out in the UK for a walk, we happily briskly walked along the Corniche, spreading across an impressive eight kilometres of manicured waterfront that includes children’s play areas, separate cycle and pedestrian pathways, and what’s more, a variety of cafes and restaurants.

The wonderful cooling breeze swept through the air and helped us on our way further along Abu Dhabi’s Corniche beachfront.

Being awarded coveted Blue Flag status, it means that it’s an internationally renowned eco-label for beaches that guarantee clean and safe bathing water, but at this time of night, we were walking, not swimming in the sea!

Emirates Palace, a seven star luxury hotel of sheer luxury it has to be said, was on the horizon, and all 1.3km of private beach and 85 hectares of gardens as well as 114 domes were lit up so beautifully.

Such an impressive skyline of lit-up buildings, palaces and hotels, was just wonderful to look at as we walked on by chatting under the desert sky of the UAE.
